Etsy fees on a 25.00 sale
3.35
Order total: 25.00 item + 5.00 shipping = 30.00. The buyer also pays 1.80 sales tax (6%), for 31.80 in all.
Transaction fee: 6.5% of 30.00 = 1.95.
Payment processing: 3% of 31.80 + 0.25 = 1.20.
Listing fee: 0.20.
You keep 26.65 of the 30.00 order total. Fees take 11.17% of it. Etsy collects and remits the sales tax; it is not yours to keep.
Formula
order total = item price + shipping charged + gift wrap
transaction fee = 6.5% * order total
payment processing = 3% * (order total + sales tax) + 0.25
Offsite Ads fee = 15% or 12% * order total, at most 100.00
you keep = order total - all fees + any Share & Save credit
profit = you keep - item cost - your shipping cost
price to keep a target = (target + 0.25 + 0.20) / (1 - 0.065 - 0.03 * (1 + tax rate)) - shipping

Short answer
An Etsy fee calculator adds Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee on the item, shipping and gift wrap, the 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee on the buyer's total with tax, and the $0.20 listing fee. On a $25.00 item with $5.00 shipping and 6% tax, the fees are $3.35.
- Etsy's transaction fee is 6.5% of the order total: the item price plus the shipping and gift wrap you charge, not the item price alone.
- A US seller paid through Etsy Payments also pays 3% + $0.25 per order for processing, on the buyer's total including sales tax.
- An order that came from an Offsite Ad adds 15% of the order total, or 12% once a shop has made $10,000 in a year, never more than $100.00.
- To keep a set amount, divide (target + $0.25 + $0.20) by (1 - 0.065 - 0.03 × (1 + tax rate)) and subtract the shipping you charge.
- Subtract the item cost and your own shipping cost from what Etsy leaves you to get the profit on a sale.
How are Etsy fees calculated?
Etsy fees on a sale are three charges for most US sellers: a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total, a payment processing fee of 3% plus $0.25 on what the buyer pays including tax, and the $0.20 listing fee. The calculator above opens on this illustrative sale.
- A $25.00 item sells with $5.00 shipping. The order total is $30.00.
- Transaction fee: $30.00 × 0.065 = $1.95.
- The buyer pays 6% sales tax of $1.80, so the buyer's total is $31.80. Payment processing: $31.80 × 0.03 = 0.954, plus $0.25, rounds to $1.20.
- Add the $0.20 listing fee: the fees are $3.35, 11.17% of the order total.
- The seller keeps $30.00 - $3.35 = $26.65. Etsy collects and remits the sales tax in the states it lists.
Etsy's help pages publish no rounding rule. This calculator rounds each fee to the nearest cent, half up, so a statement can differ by a cent.
How to use the Etsy fee calculator
- Enter the item price, the shipping you charge and any gift wrap. Enter 0 for free shipping.
- Enter the buyer's sales tax rate. Etsy's processing fee is charged on the tax, so leaving it out understates that fee a little.
- Check the rates. They start at Etsy's published US figures; change any of them if your statement shows something else.
- Add the fees that apply to this order. An Offsite Ads rate if the buyer came from one, currency conversion if you list in another currency, a Share & Save credit if the buyer used your link.
- Add your costs for profit. Optional: the item cost and your label cost give the profit and the margin.
- Set a target. Optional: the amount you want to keep, and the result shows the item price to charge.
Etsy seller fees for US sellers
Etsy's seller fees for a US shop are a listing fee when you publish, a transaction fee and a payment processing fee when an item sells, and an advertising fee only on orders that came from an Offsite Ad. Currency conversion applies only if you list in a currency your bank does not use. These are the figures on Etsy's help center.
| Fee | Published amount | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 per listing, for 4 months | Each listing you publish or auto-renew, each extra quantity sold in one order, and a private listing when the buyer purchases it; paid whether or not the item sells |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | The order total: item price, shipping and gift wrap you charge |
| Payment processing (US bank account) | 3% + $0.25 per order | The total sale price including shipping and sales tax |
| Offsite Ads | 15%, or 12% once a shop has made $10,000 in any 365 days; at most $100.00 per order | The order total, only on an order from a click on an Offsite Ad within 30 days |
| Currency conversion | 2.5% | The sale amount, when your listing currency differs from your bank account's currency |
| Share & Save (a credit, not a fee) | 4% back | The eligible order total, on an order within 30 days of a click on your own shared link |
| Etsy Ads, shipping labels, Etsy Plus, Pattern | Depend on what you choose | Charged when you buy them, not per sale |
| Shop set-up fee | One time, varies by location | Shown and charged while you open the shop |

How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale?
Etsy takes $9.95 from a $100 sale with no shipping and no sales tax: a $6.50 transaction fee, $3.25 for payment processing and the $0.20 listing fee, which leaves $90.05. With 6% sales tax the fees are $10.13. If the buyer came from an Offsite Ad at 15%, they are $24.95 and you keep $75.05.
| Item price | Fees, no tax | You keep | Fees as a share of the price | Fees with 6% tax | You keep, with tax |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $5.00 | $0.93 | $4.07 | 18.60% | $0.94 | $4.06 |
| $10.00 | $1.40 | $8.60 | 14.00% | $1.42 | $8.58 |
| $20.00 | $2.35 | $17.65 | 11.75% | $2.39 | $17.61 |
| $50.00 | $5.20 | $44.80 | 10.40% | $5.29 | $44.71 |
| $100.00 | $9.95 | $90.05 | 9.95% | $10.13 | $89.87 |
| $250.00 | $24.20 | $225.80 | 9.68% | $24.65 | $225.35 |
| $500.00 | $47.95 | $452.05 | 9.59% | $48.85 | $451.15 |
The $0.25 processing fee and the $0.20 listing fee are the same on every order, so they weigh most on cheap items: on a $5.00 sale the fees are $0.93, 18.60% of the price.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping and sales tax?
Etsy charges its 6.5% transaction fee on shipping and gift wrap as well as the item price, and its payment processing fee on the whole amount the buyer pays, sales tax included. The transaction fee is not charged on sales tax: Etsy's Share & Save page describes the same order total as the amount "before taxes".
That makes free shipping and charged shipping cost the same in fees when the buyer pays the same total. A $30.00 item with free shipping and a $25.00 item with $5.00 shipping both pay $3.30 with no tax, and both leave $26.70.
Etsy calculates, collects and remits US sales tax for orders to the states on its sales tax page, and charges no extra administration fee for doing so. The calculator applies the tax rate to the whole order; where a state does not tax shipping, enter a rate that gives the tax shown on the order.
What price should I charge on Etsy to keep a set amount?
To keep a set amount after Etsy fees, add the $0.25 processing fee and the $0.20 listing fee to the amount you want, divide by one minus the fee rates on each dollar, and subtract the shipping you charge. With $5.00 shipping and 6% tax, keeping $25.00 takes an item price of $23.18.
item price = (target + 0.25 + 0.20) / (1 - 0.065 - 0.03 * (1 + tax rate)) - shipping charged
- Target plus the fixed fees: 25.00 + 0.25 + 0.20 = 25.45.
- The fee rates on each dollar of the order: 0.065 for the transaction fee and 0.03 × 1.06 for processing on the taxed total, so the divisor is 0.9032.
- Divide: 25.45 / 0.9032 = 28.17759 for item plus shipping. Subtract the $5.00 shipping: 23.17759, so charge $23.18.
- Check it: the fees on $23.18 are $3.18, which leaves $25.00.
The shortcut that fails: a $20.00 item with $5.00 shipping pays $2.88 in fees, so it is tempting to add them and charge $22.88. The fees grow with the price, which leaves $24.73, $0.27 short. If the order comes from an Offsite Ad at 15%, the same $25.00 takes $28.79.
| To keep | Charge | Etsy fees | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10.00 | $6.57 | $1.57 | $10.00 |
| $25.00 | $23.18 | $3.18 | $25.00 |
| $50.00 | $50.86 | $5.86 | $50.00 |
| $100.00 | $106.22 | $11.22 | $100.00 |
| $250.00 | $272.29 | $27.29 | $250.00 |
Etsy profit calculator: profit and margin after fees
Your profit on an Etsy sale is what Etsy leaves you, the order total minus every fee, less what the item cost you and what you paid to ship it. Enter the item cost and your shipping cost in the calculator to see it. Here is one illustrative sale.
- A $40.00 item with $6.00 shipping and 6% tax: the order total is $46.00.
- Etsy's fees: $4.90. You keep $41.10.
- Less the $12.00 item cost and a $5.50 label: a profit of $23.60, a 51.30% margin on the order total.
- If the order came from an Offsite Ad at 15%, the ad fee is $6.90 and the profit falls to $16.70, a 36.30% margin.
To make $20.00 of profit on the same sale, enter it as the amount you want to keep: the calculator says to charge $36.02. Work out a margin or a markup from your own figures with the margin calculator, and profit over a month, after ads and overheads, with the profit calculator.
If you also sell on your own website
On your own store the per sale cost is a card or PayPal fee instead of a marketplace fee; the PayPal fee calculator works it out the same way. What you then pay for is the traffic, so the share of visitors who buy matters more. If you have your own store page, Convertica's free CRO audit checks it: the first screen, calls to action, forms, trust, mobile, speed and AI agent readiness, ranked by likely impact.
How much do Etsy Offsite Ads cost a seller?
Etsy Offsite Ads cost a seller nothing up front and 15% of the order total on each order that came from a click on one within 30 days, or 12% for a shop that has made $10,000 or more in any 365 days. The fee is capped at $100.00 per order. On the $25.00 item with $5.00 shipping, the ad fee is $4.50 at 15% and $3.60 at 12%.
- Opting out. A shop that has always made less than $10,000 in any 365 days can turn Offsite Ads off in Shop Manager. Once it reaches $10,000, the ads are required for the life of the shop.
- The cap. At 15% the cap is reached on an order total of $666.67, at 12% on $833.33. A $995.00 item with $5.00 shipping would pay $150.00, but the fee stops at $100.00.
- No choice of listing or budget. Etsy picks the listings it advertises and there is no spending limit; you pay only when a sale is attributed.
Etsy Ads, the ads inside Etsy search, are a separate budget you set and are not in this calculator. Details: Etsy's Offsite Ads page.
How can I lower my Etsy fees?
You lower Etsy fees mostly by avoiding the ones that are optional: the transaction, processing and listing fees apply to every sale. Each point below comes from Etsy's own help pages.
- Bring your own buyers with Share & Save. An order within 30 days of a click on your shared link earns 4% of the order total back: $1.20 on the $25.00 example, leaving $27.85.
- Decide on Offsite Ads while you can. Under $10,000 a year you can opt out; work out with the calculator whether 15% on the orders they bring is worth it to you.
- List in your bank's currency. Listing in another currency adds 2.5%: $0.75 on the example.
- Price the item so the fees are covered. Use the target field rather than adding last sale's fees on top.
- Count the listing fee on renewals. Each auto-renewal and each extra quantity sold costs another $0.20.
How to calculate Etsy fees in Excel or Google Sheets
To calculate Etsy fees in Excel or Google Sheets, put the item price in A2, the shipping in B2 and the tax rate in C2 as a percentage. The transaction fee is =ROUND((A2+B2)*0.065,2), payment processing follows from the taxed total, and the listing fee is a fixed 0.20. The same formulas work in both programs.
| To get | Formula | Cells |
|---|---|---|
| Transaction fee | =ROUND((A2+B2)*0.065,2) | Into D2 |
| Payment processing | =ROUND((A2+B2)*(1+C2)*0.03,2)+0.25 | Into E2 |
| Total fees | =D2+E2+0.2 | Into F2, with the listing fee |
| What you keep | =A2+B2-F2 | Subtract an Offsite Ads fee too if there was one |
| Profit | =A2+B2-F2-G2-H2 | Item cost in G2, your shipping cost in H2 |
| Price to keep a target | =(I2+0.45)/(1-0.065-0.03*(1+C2))-B2 | The amount to keep in I2; round up to the cent |

How does an Etsy fee calculator work?
An Etsy fee calculator takes 6.5% of the item price, shipping and gift wrap, adds 3% of the buyer's total with tax plus $0.25, and adds the $0.20 listing fee. A $25.00 item with $5.00 shipping and 6% tax pays $1.95 + $1.20 + $0.20 = $3.35.
How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale?
Etsy takes $9.95 from a $100 sale with no shipping or sales tax: $6.50 transaction fee, $3.25 payment processing and the $0.20 listing fee, which leaves $90.05. With 6% sales tax the fees are $10.13. If the order came from an Offsite Ad at 15%, they are $24.95.
What percentage does Etsy take?
Etsy takes 6.5% of the order total as a transaction fee, and a US seller pays 3% of the buyer's total plus $0.25 for payment processing, so about 9.5% plus $0.45 with the listing fee. Offsite Ads add 15% or 12% on the orders they bring in.
Does Etsy take 30%?
No. On a $25.00 item with $5.00 shipping and 6% tax, Etsy's fees are $3.35, 11.17% of the order total. An Offsite Ads order at 15% raises that to $7.85, 26.17%. On a very cheap item the fixed fees weigh more: on a $5.00 sale they are 18.60%.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee applies to the shipping and gift wrap you charge, as well as the item price, and the payment processing fee is taken from the total sale price including shipping and sales tax. Free shipping and charged shipping cost the same in fees when the buyer pays the same total.
How much is the Etsy listing fee?
The Etsy listing fee is $0.20 per listing, charged when you publish it whether or not the item sells. A listing lasts 4 months. Auto-renewing an expired or sold listing costs $0.20 again, and selling more than one quantity in an order costs $0.20 for each extra item.
What is the Etsy payment processing fee in the US?
For a seller whose bank account is in the United States, Etsy Payments charges 3% of the total sale price plus $0.25 per order. Etsy takes it from the total including shipping and any applicable sales tax, on top of the 6.5% transaction fee. Other countries have their own rates on Etsy's table.
How much are Etsy Offsite Ads fees?
Etsy charges 15% of the order total on an order from an Offsite Ad if your shop has always made less than $10,000 in any 365 days, and 12% once it has made $10,000 or more. The fee never exceeds $100.00 per order. Under $10,000 you can opt out; above it, the ads are required.
How do I calculate my profit on Etsy?
Take the item price plus the shipping you charged, subtract every Etsy fee, then subtract what the item cost and what the label cost. A $40.00 item with $6.00 shipping and 6% tax pays $4.90 in fees; after a $12.00 item cost and a $5.50 label the profit is $23.60.
What price should I charge on Etsy to keep a set amount?
Add $0.25 and the $0.20 listing fee to the amount you want, divide by one minus 0.065 minus 0.03 times one plus the tax rate, and subtract the shipping you charge. To keep $25.00 with $5.00 shipping and 6% tax, price the item at $23.18.
Does Etsy charge a currency conversion fee?
Yes, when you list in a currency other than your bank account's currency. Etsy converts the sale into your payment account currency and charges 2.5% of the sale amount. A US seller who lists in US dollars and banks in US dollars pays no conversion fee.
How do I calculate Etsy fees in Excel or Google Sheets?
