AI search visibility (GEO)
Generative engine optimization services: be found, and chosen, in AI search
Convertica's generative engine optimization (GEO) services help your business show up accurately in AI answers from ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity and Gemini, and help the visitors and agents those answers send actually convert. GEO is sold through CRO advisory, led personally by founder Kurt Philip, and priced after your audit. Your team makes the changes, or Convertica's team builds the fixes with full implementation.
Short answer
Generative engine optimization services help a business appear, accurately, in answers written by AI search tools such as ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini. At Convertica, GEO is sold through CRO advisory, led by founder Kurt Philip and priced after your audit, so being found in AI answers and converting the visits they send are worked on together.
- GEO covers crawl access, answerable pages, structured data, presence on the sites AI tools cite, agent readiness and measurement.
- Visibility in AI answers is only worth paying for if the people and agents it sends can find what they came for and buy.
- There is no separate GEO price; the work starts with the free CRO audit and continues in advisory.
- Your team makes the changes, or Convertica's team builds the fixes with full implementation.
- Nobody can honestly guarantee citations in AI answers; GEO removes the reasons you are left out and measures what changes.
What are generative engine optimization services?
Generative engine optimization services help a business appear, accurately, in answers written by AI search tools such as ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity and Gemini. The work makes your pages reachable and quotable, your facts consistent wherever AI tools look, and the visits those answers send more likely to convert.
The term comes from a 2023 research paper, "GEO: Generative Engine Optimization" by Pranjal Aggarwal and colleagues, published at KDD 2024. You will also see AI search optimization, answer engine optimization (AEO), LLM optimization and AI SEO used for much the same work. At Convertica we call the service AI search visibility.
The offer
How Convertica's GEO service works
Convertica sells generative engine optimization as part of CRO advisory, not as a separate package. It starts with the free CRO audit, continues with advisory led by Kurt Philip, and is priced after your audit. Your team makes the changes, or Convertica's team builds the fixes with full implementation.
That structure is deliberate. Visibility in AI answers is only worth paying for if the people and agents it sends can find what they came for and buy. So the same advisor looks at both: whether AI tools can find and describe you, and whether your pages convert when they do.
- Start: the free CRO audit, an app you can run now. One of its eight checks is agent readiness: whether an AI agent can read what your page sells, the price and the policies.
- Then: CRO advisory, led personally by Kurt Philip, with Convertica's CRO team. AI search visibility is part of the advisory work when it matters for your business.
- Price: Priced after your audit. There is no separate GEO price. See how pricing works.
- Who builds: in advisory, your developer, content team or agency. If you would rather not build the changes, full implementation has Convertica's team build the fixes from your audit, priced after your audit.
Places in advisory are limited.

What generative engine optimization covers
Generative engine optimization covers six areas: crawl access for AI search tools, pages that answer buyer questions clearly, structured data that matches the page, a consistent presence on the third-party sites AI tools cite, readiness for AI agents, and measuring visits and conversions from AI answers. Most sites have gaps in two or three of them.
| Area | What it means | Who does it |
|---|---|---|
| Crawl access | The AI search crawlers you want, such as OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT search, can reach your pages; bot protection is not blocking them | Advisor reviews; your developer or host changes settings |
| Answerable pages | Pages that answer the questions buyers ask AI tools, with plain facts near the top and real lists and tables | Advisor prioritizes; your content team writes |
| Structured data | Organization, product, service and FAQ markup that matches the visible page | Advisor reviews; your developer implements |
| Presence elsewhere | Accurate, consistent facts about you on the sites AI answers cite: directories, review sites, partner pages, industry publications | Advisor identifies gaps; your team does the outreach |
| Agent readiness | AI agents that act for buyers can read your prices and policies and complete your forms or checkout | The free audit checks; the advisor reviews; your team fixes |
| Measurement and conversion | Visits from AI answers tracked as their own segment, and the pages they land on optimized to convert | Advisor and your team, together |
How AI search visibility work runs, step by step
AI search visibility work follows the same evidence-first cycle as CRO: check access and measurement, find out how AI tools describe you today, fix what blocks or confuses them, strengthen the pages and outside sources they rely on, then measure visits and conversions and repeat.
-
Check access and tracking
Confirm AI crawlers can reach your key pages, and that visits from AI assistants show up in your analytics as their own segment.
-
See how AI tools describe you
Ask the questions your buyers ask, in the tools they use, and record what is said about you and your competitors and which sources are cited. Answers vary, so look for patterns across many questions rather than single answers.
-
Fix what blocks or confuses
Blocked crawlers, facts hidden in images or scripts, prices and policies that differ between pages, structured data that disagrees with the page.
-
Strengthen the pages that should be cited
Make the pages that answer buyer questions clearer, more specific and more original. Google's guidance asks for content that offers value beyond common knowledge, and that is what gets quoted.
-
Close gaps on the sites AI tools cite
Where AI answers lean on third-party sites, make sure your facts there are correct and current. Earn mentions honestly; do not manufacture them.
-
Measure visits and conversions, then repeat
Track AI-referred visits and how they convert, and optimize the pages they land on. A citation that sends visitors to a page that does not convert is only half the job.
GEO vs SEO vs AEO
GEO, SEO and AEO overlap heavily. SEO earns rankings in search results, AEO aims at direct answers, and GEO aims at being cited and described accurately in AI-written answers. Google says that, for its own AI features, optimizing for generative AI search is still SEO.
| SEO | AEO | GEO | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goal | Rank pages in search results | Be the direct answer, such as a featured snippet or voice answer | Be cited and described accurately in AI-written answers |
| Where it shows | Search result listings | Answer boxes and assistants | ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini |
| Main measure | Rankings, clicks | Answer appearances | Mentions, citations and AI-referred visits |
| Foundation | Crawlable, helpful pages | The same | The same |
In practice, the foundation does most of the work. Google's guide to its generative AI features says pages must be indexed and eligible for a snippet, and that its AI features are rooted in its core ranking and quality systems. Other AI search tools run their own crawlers and indexes, which is why crawl access for each matters.
What GEO done properly does not include
Honest generative engine optimization does not include guaranteed citations, fake mentions, AI-only rewrites of your pages or files sold as shortcuts. Google's guidance lists several popular GEO tactics as things site owners can ignore, and some of them can backfire.
- Guaranteed citations or rankings. No provider controls AI answers. Google warns that no third-party tool has access to its internal ranking or AI systems.
- Manufactured mentions. Google says seeking inauthentic mentions across the web is not as helpful as it might seem; its systems focus on quality content and block spam.
- Mass AI-written pages. Publishing pages at scale mainly to manipulate rankings or AI answers breaks Google's scaled content abuse policy.
- "Chunking" and AI-only rewrites. Google says there is no need to break content into tiny pieces or write a special way for AI. Write for your buyers.
- llms.txt as a fix. An llms.txt file is optional and ignored by Google Search. Fine to have; not a strategy.
Why buy AI search visibility from a CRO consultancy?
Buy AI search visibility from a CRO consultancy when you care about what the visibility produces. Most GEO providers stop at being mentioned. Convertica's work starts there and follows the visitor, or the AI agent, onto your site, where the sale is won or lost.
Kurt Philip has worked in SEO since the early 2000s and founded Convertica in 2017; it has worked with 2,000+ clients across eCommerce, lead generation, SaaS, affiliate sites and agencies. That combination matters here. GEO is search work, and AI-referred visitors arrive with a specific question already half answered; the page they land on has to finish the job. Agent readiness, whether AI agents can read your prices and policies and use your checkout, sits between the two, and it is one of the free audit's eight checks.
This is a young field with little long-term data, including Convertica's. We say so, and we measure.
How to measure AI search visibility
Measure AI search visibility with four sources together: Google Search Console's generative AI performance report, AI-referred visits and conversions in your analytics, AI crawler requests in your server logs, and a fixed set of buyer questions checked in AI tools over time. No single source shows everything.
| Source | What it shows | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Search Console generative AI performance report | How your content performs in Google's generative AI features | Google only |
| Analytics referrals | Visits from AI assistants and how they convert | Misses answers that send no click, and some visits arrive as direct traffic |
| Server or CDN logs | Requests from published AI crawlers and agents | Shows access, not what was said about you |
| Question tracking | What AI tools say about you and whom they cite, for the questions your buyers ask | Answers vary by run, user and location; look at trends |
How to choose a GEO agency or consultant
To choose a GEO agency or consultant, ask how they measure success beyond mentions, what they change and who changes it, how they treat Google's published guidance, and what they will not do. The questions below work for any provider, Convertica included.
- What do you measure, and how? Look for AI-referred visits and conversions, not only a visibility score from a tool.
- Which AI tools do you check, and with which questions? The questions should be your buyers', not vanity searches for your brand name.
- What exactly will change on our site, and who makes the changes?
- How do you build mentions on other sites? The answer should not involve paying for placements dressed up as editorial or posting fake reviews.
- What do you promise? A guaranteed citation or ranking is a red flag.
- How do you price it, and what is included? Convertica's answer: GEO is part of CRO advisory, priced after your audit.
Generative engine optimization services FAQ
What are generative engine optimization services?
Generative engine optimization (GEO) services help a business appear accurately in answers from AI search tools such as ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, Perplexity and Gemini. The work covers crawl access, clear and quotable pages, structured data, a consistent presence on the sites AI tools cite, and measuring the visits that result.
How much do GEO services cost?
At Convertica, generative engine optimization is part of CRO advisory, which is priced after your audit: Convertica quotes it based on what your free CRO audit and your goals show. No price figures are published. With any provider, ask exactly what is included and who makes the changes.
Is GEO different from SEO?
Partly. GEO builds on SEO: Google says its AI features rely on the same ranking and quality systems, so crawlable, helpful pages come first. GEO adds attention to how AI tools describe and cite your brand, how quotable your pages are, and how visits from AI answers convert.
Can you guarantee my brand will be cited in ChatGPT or AI Overviews?
No, and nobody honestly can. AI answers vary between runs and users, and no outside provider controls how they are generated. Google warns that no third-party tool has access to its internal ranking or AI systems. What GEO can do is remove the reasons you are left out and measure what changes.
Does Convertica make the changes to my site?
It can. With full implementation, Convertica's team builds the fixes from your audit for you. With CRO advisory, led by Kurt Philip with Convertica's CRO team, Convertica tells you what to change and in what order and reviews the results with you, and your developer, content team or agency makes the changes. Both are priced after your audit.
Do I need an llms.txt file for generative engine optimization?
No. llms.txt is optional, and Google says its Search features, including AI Overviews and AI Mode, ignore it. It can be worth publishing for AI tools that read it, but readable pages, crawl access and accurate facts matter much more.
How long does generative engine optimization take to work?
It depends on how often AI tools and search engines recrawl your pages and on what needs fixing. A blocked crawler can be fixed quickly; earning mentions on the sites AI tools cite takes longer. Nobody can honestly promise a date before looking at your site.
