Venmo fee on 100.00
2.99
100.00 × 2.99% = 2.99.
If someone pays you 100.00, you receive 97.01. The fee is 2.99% of the payment.
To be left with 100.00 after the fee, request 103.08: 100.00 ÷ (1 - 2.99%), checked to the cent. The fee on 103.08 is 3.08.
Formula
fee = amount * rate + fixed fee
you receive = amount - fee
amount to request = (target + fixed fee) / (1 - rate)
instant transfer = amount * 1.75%, at least 0.25, at most 25.00

Short answer
A Venmo fee calculator multiplies a payment by Venmo's rate and adds any fixed fee: fee = amount × rate + fixed fee. On Venmo's published US rates, a $100.00 goods and services payment to a personal profile costs the seller $2.99 (2.99%) and leaves $97.01. A business profile pays 1.9% + $0.10. Personal payments between friends have no fee.
- Venmo charges the person who receives a payment for goods and services: 2.99% on a personal profile, 1.9% + $0.10 on a business profile and 2.29% + $0.09 through Tap to Pay.
- A personal payment between friends has no fee to send from a balance, bank account or debit card, and none to receive. Sending with a credit card costs the sender 3%.
- A standard transfer to your bank is free. Instant Transfer costs 1.75%, at least $0.25 and at most $25.00.
- To be left with a set amount, divide (target + fixed fee) by (1 - rate). Adding the fee on top leaves you short, because the fee is charged on the larger amount.
- Venmo's user agreement says a refund costs nothing to send, but the fee you paid on the original payment is not returned.
How are Venmo fees calculated?
Venmo fees on a payment you receive are a percentage of the payment, plus a fixed fee for business and charity profiles. Multiply the amount by the rate, add any fixed fee and subtract the total from the payment. At Venmo's published US rate for goods and services on a personal profile, 2.99%, a $100.00 payment costs $2.99 and leaves $97.01.
fee = amount * rate + fixed fee
- Amount: 100.00. Rate: 2.99%, which is 0.0299 as a decimal.
- Percentage part: 100.00 × 0.0299 = 2.99. Venmo's row for goods and services prints no fixed fee, so that is the fee: $2.99.
- You receive 100.00 - 2.99 = $97.01.
A business profile fee rarely lands on a whole cent. A $47.50 payment at 1.9% + $0.10 works out as 47.50 × 0.019 = 0.9025, plus 0.10 is 1.0025, which this calculator rounds to $1.00, leaving $46.50. That is 2.11% of the payment, more than the 1.9% headline rate because of the fixed fee. Venmo's fees page does not state a rounding rule, so a real fee can differ from this one by a cent.
How to use the Venmo fee calculator
- Choose the payment type. Goods and services on a personal profile, a business profile, Tap to Pay, a charity profile, or a personal payment with no fee. Pick "Custom rate" for anything else.
- Enter one amount. The result shows the fee if someone pays that amount, and the amount to request if you want to be left with it.
- Correct the rate. Change the percentage or the fixed fee to what your own Venmo account shows.
- Choose how the money reaches your bank. Pick Instant Transfer to add its fee and see what lands in your bank.
- Say how the sender pays. Pick credit card to see the 3% the sender pays on top.
Venmo fees for receiving a payment in the US
On payments received, Venmo charges the recipient, and only for some kinds of payment. On Venmo's published US rates, goods and services on a personal profile is 2.99%, a business profile is 1.9% + $0.10, Tap to Pay on a business profile is 2.29% + $0.09 and a charity profile is 1.9% + $0.10. A personal payment from a friend has no fee. The table shows what each rate does to $100.00.
| Payment received | Published rate | Fee on $100.00 | You receive | Request, to be left with $100.00 | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Personal profile, payment marked as goods and services | 2.99% | $2.99 | $97.01 | $103.08 | Venmo's row prints a percentage only, with no fixed fee. |
| Business profile | 1.9% + $0.10 | $2.00 | $98.00 | $102.04 | |
| Business profile, Tap to Pay | 2.29% + $0.09 | $2.38 | $97.62 | $102.44 | In person, on a phone, for approved business profiles. |
| Charity profile | 1.9% + $0.10 | $2.00 | $98.00 | $102.04 | |
| Personal payment from a Venmo user (not goods and services) | No fee | $0.00 | $100.00 | $100.00 | Venmo charges a fee if the sender marks the payment as goods and services. |

What is the Venmo goods and services fee?
The Venmo goods and services fee is what Venmo calls a seller transaction fee: 2.99% of a payment that the sender marks as for goods and services, taken when it arrives in a personal profile. The seller pays it, not the buyer. Venmo's user agreement says a personal account may only be used to sell to people you do not know if the buyer marks the payment as goods and services or you have a business profile.
What are Venmo business profile fees?
Venmo business profile fees are 1.9% + $0.10 on each payment received, and 2.29% + $0.09 on a payment taken in person through Tap to Pay, which Venmo offers only to approved business profiles. A business profile sits inside a personal account, and Venmo's user agreement says it is offered at Venmo's discretion.
Venmo goods and services vs business profile fees
A Venmo business profile costs less than goods and services on a personal profile for any payment over $9.17. The personal rate, 2.99%, has no fixed fee; the business rate, 1.9% + $0.10, has a lower percentage and a $0.10 fixed fee. The two cost the same where 0.10 = amount × (2.99% - 1.9%), which is 0.10 / 0.0109.
| Payment | Goods and services fee | You receive | Business profile fee | You receive | Business fee as a share | Tap to Pay fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $5.00 | $0.15 | $4.85 | $0.20 | $4.80 | 4.00% | $0.20 |
| $10.00 | $0.30 | $9.70 | $0.29 | $9.71 | 2.90% | $0.32 |
| $25.00 | $0.75 | $24.25 | $0.58 | $24.42 | 2.32% | $0.66 |
| $50.00 | $1.50 | $48.50 | $1.05 | $48.95 | 2.10% | $1.24 |
| $100.00 | $2.99 | $97.01 | $2.00 | $98.00 | 2.00% | $2.38 |
| $250.00 | $7.48 | $242.52 | $4.85 | $245.15 | 1.94% | $5.82 |
| $600.00 | $17.94 | $582.06 | $11.50 | $588.50 | 1.92% | $13.83 |
| $1,000.00 | $29.90 | $970.10 | $19.10 | $980.90 | 1.91% | $22.99 |
On a $5.00 sale the business profile's fixed fee makes it the dearer of the two: $0.20 against $0.15, which is 4.00% of the sale. Above $9.17 the gap grows with the payment. The fee is not the only difference: Venmo's user agreement says certain payments to a business profile, or marked as goods and services, can be eligible for the Venmo Purchase Protection Program, and personal payments are not.
How much does Venmo charge for $100, $600 or $1,000?
Venmo charges nothing on a personal payment of any size sent from a balance, bank account or debit card. On a goods and services payment, the seller pays $2.99 on $100.00, $17.94 on $600.00 and $29.90 on $1,000.00 with a personal profile, or $2.00, $11.50 and $19.10 with a business profile.
- $100.00: goods and services $2.99 (you receive $97.01), business profile $2.00 ($98.00), Instant Transfer $1.75, credit card sender fee $3.00.
- $600.00: goods and services $17.94 ($582.06), business profile $11.50 ($588.50), Instant Transfer $10.50, credit card sender fee $18.00.
- $1,000.00: goods and services $29.90 ($970.10), business profile $19.10 ($980.90), Instant Transfer $17.50, credit card sender fee $30.00.
How much should I request to receive a set amount after Venmo fees?
To receive a set amount after Venmo fees, add any fixed fee to the amount you want and divide by one minus the rate. To be left with $100.00 from a goods and services payment at 2.99%, request $103.08: 100.00 / 0.9701 = 103.08216, and the fee on $103.08 is $3.08, which leaves $100.00.
amount to request = (target + fixed fee) / (1 - rate)
On a business profile, the fixed fee goes on top first: 100.10 / 0.981 = 102.03874, so request $102.04. The shortcut that fails is adding the fee to the price. The fee on $100.00 is $2.99, so it is tempting to ask for $102.99, but the fee on $102.99 is $3.08 and you are left with $99.91, $0.09 short.
| To be left with | Request, goods and services (2.99%) | Fee | Request, business profile (1.9% + $0.10) | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $100.00 | $103.08 | $3.08 | $102.04 | $2.04 |
| $500.00 | $515.41 | $15.41 | $509.79 | $9.79 |
| $1,000.00 | $1,030.82 | $30.82 | $1,019.47 | $19.47 |
The calculator rounds each answer to the cent and checks it: the amount it gives is the smallest one whose fee, rounded, still leaves the target.
How much is the Venmo Instant Transfer fee?
The Venmo Instant Transfer fee is 1.75% of the amount you move to a linked bank account or debit card, with a minimum fee of $0.25 and a maximum of $25.00. Moving $100.00 costs $1.75, so $98.25 arrives. A standard transfer has no fee and, Venmo says, typically arrives in 1 to 3 business days at a bank.
The minimum sets the fee on any transfer up to $14.29, so cashing out $5.00 costs $0.25, 5.00% of it. The maximum holds from about $1,428.57 up: a $5,000.00 transfer also costs $25.00.
| Amount transferred | Fee | Arrives | Fee as a share |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10.00 | $0.25 | $9.75 | 2.50% |
| $14.29 | $0.25 | $14.04 | 1.75% |
| $50.00 | $0.88 | $49.12 | 1.76% |
| $100.00 | $1.75 | $98.25 | 1.75% |
| $500.00 | $8.75 | $491.25 | 1.75% |
| $1,000.00 | $17.50 | $982.50 | 1.75% |
| $1,428.57 | $25.00 | $1,403.57 | 1.75% |
| $2,000.00 | $25.00 | $1,975.00 | 1.25% |
| $5,000.00 | $25.00 | $4,975.00 | 0.50% |
Both fees on one sale
A seller who takes $100.00 as goods and services and cashes it out at once pays twice: $2.99 on the payment, leaving $97.01, then $1.70 to move it, so $95.31 reaches the bank, $4.69 less than the price. To have $100.00 land in the bank, $101.78 has to be cashed out, which means requesting $104.92. Choose Instant Transfer in the calculator to run this for any amount.
Does Venmo charge a fee to send money?
Venmo charges no fee to send money to a Venmo account or a US PayPal account from your Venmo balance, a bank account or a debit card. Sending with a credit card costs the sender 3%: $3.00 on a $100.00 payment, which costs them $103.00 in all. The recipient still receives the full $100.00 unless the payment is for goods and services.
Sending to an eligible PayPal account outside the US costs 5%, with a minimum of $0.99 and a maximum of $4.99, and another 3% if a credit card pays for it. The minimum sets the fee up to $19.80 ($0.99 on $10.00) and the maximum from about $99.80 ($4.99 on $200.00, or $10.99 with a credit card). If the recipient receives another currency, Venmo's exchange rate includes a spread of 4% or a lower figure shown during the payment.
Which other Venmo fees should a seller know about?
Beyond the fees on payments and transfers, Venmo's US fees page lists fees for adding a check in minutes, adding cash at stores, ATM withdrawals and card use abroad. Opening an account, holding one, buying online, calling customer service and getting statements have no fee.
| Fee | Published amount | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Adding a payroll or government check in minutes | 2%, minimum $6.00 | $20.00 on $1,000.00; the minimum applies up to $300.00 |
| Adding any other accepted check in minutes | 5%, minimum $6.00 | $50.00 on $1,000.00; no fee if the check cannot be added |
| Adding cash at stores with the Venmo Debit Card | $3.74 | At participating stores |
| ATM withdrawal outside the MoneyPass network in the US | $2.50 | The ATM owner may charge more |
| ATM withdrawal outside the US | $2.50 | Even with no currency conversion |
| Venmo Debit Card purchases and withdrawals outside the US | 2.5%, from | Even with no currency conversion |
| Over-the-counter cash withdrawal | $3.00 | Per withdrawal that needs a signature |
Two terms from Venmo's user agreement matter to a seller. A refund costs nothing to send, but the fee paid on the original payment is not returned. For Tap to Pay payments, a reversal or a successful chargeback makes the seller responsible for the payment plus any fees, and Venmo keeps the seller transaction fee.
What do Venmo fees cost your profit?
A Venmo fee comes out of your gross profit, not your revenue, so it weighs more than its rate suggests. At an illustrative 40% gross margin, a $100.00 goods and services sale makes $40.00 of gross profit, and the $2.99 fee takes 7.48% of it.
| Sale | Gross profit | Goods and services fee, share of profit | Business profile fee, share of profit |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10.00 | $4.00 | 7.50% | 7.25% |
| $25.00 | $10.00 | 7.50% | 5.80% |
| $50.00 | $20.00 | 7.50% | 5.25% |
| $100.00 | $40.00 | 7.48% | 5.00% |
| $250.00 | $100.00 | 7.48% | 4.85% |
Use your own margin, not this one. The margin calculator works out a margin from your price and costs, and the profit calculator carries the fees into a month's profit after ads and overheads.
If you also sell on your own website
On a website the per sale cost is a payment processor's fee; the PayPal fee calculator, Stripe fee calculator and Square fee calculator work it out the same way. A point of fees can matter less than a change in the share of visitors who buy. Convertica's free CRO audit checks a page on your site: the first screen, calls to action, forms, trust, mobile, speed and AI agent readiness, ranked by likely impact.
How can I avoid or lower Venmo fees?
You lower Venmo fees by choosing how money is sent and moved: personal payments funded from a balance, bank or debit card are free, standard transfers are free, and a business profile charges less than personal goods and services above $9.17. A sale for goods or services always carries a seller fee. Each point below comes from Venmo's published US fees.
- Send from a balance, bank or debit card. That avoids the 3% credit card fee on sending.
- Use a standard transfer when you can wait. It has no fee; Instant Transfer costs 1.75%, at least $0.25.
- Cash out larger amounts less often. The $0.25 minimum weighs most on small transfers, and the $25.00 maximum caps a large one.
- Sell through a business profile above $9.17. 1.9% + $0.10 costs less than 2.99% on every payment over that.
- Mark sales as goods and services anyway. Venmo's user agreement does not allow selling to people you do not know through personal payments, and it names payments to a business profile or marked as goods and services as the ones that can be eligible for Purchase Protection.
How to calculate Venmo fees in Excel or Google Sheets
To calculate Venmo fees in Excel or Google Sheets, put the payment in A2, the rate in B2 as a percentage and the fixed fee in C2, then round the fee to the cent. For goods and services on a personal profile, B2 is 2.99% and C2 is 0; for a business profile, 1.9% and 0.10. The same formulas work in both programs.
| To get | Formula | Cells |
|---|---|---|
| Fee | =ROUND(A2*B2+C2,2) | Payment in A2, rate in B2, fixed fee in C2 |
| You receive | =A2-ROUND(A2*B2+C2,2) | |
| Amount to request | =ROUND((A2+C2)/(1-B2),2) | A2 is the amount you want to be left with; check the fee on the answer |
| Instant Transfer fee | =MIN(MAX(ROUND(D2*1.75%,2),0.25),25.00) | Amount cashed out in D2 |

Venmo fee calculator FAQ
How does a Venmo fee calculator work?
A Venmo fee calculator multiplies the payment by Venmo's rate for that kind of payment, adds any fixed fee and subtracts the total: fee = amount × rate + fixed fee. On a $100.00 goods and services payment to a personal profile, 2.99%, the fee is $2.99 and you receive $97.01. Run backward, it gives the amount to request.
How much does Venmo charge for $100?
Nothing, if a friend sends $100.00 as a personal payment from a balance, bank account or debit card. If the payment is marked as goods and services to a personal profile, the seller pays $2.99 and receives $97.01. A business profile pays $2.00 and receives $98.00. Instant Transfer of $100.00 costs $1.75.
How much will Venmo charge for $1,000?
On a $1,000.00 goods and services payment, Venmo's published US rates charge a personal profile $29.90 and a business profile $19.10. A friend sending $1,000.00 with a credit card pays $30.00 on top. Instant Transfer of $1,000.00 costs $17.50. A personal payment from a balance, bank or debit card is free.
How much is the Venmo fee for $600?

Does Venmo charge a 3% fee?
Venmo's fees page lists a 3% fee for sending money to a Venmo account or a US PayPal account with a credit card. The sender pays it, on top of the payment: $3.00 on $100.00. Sending from a Venmo balance, a bank account or a debit card has no fee.
How do I avoid the Venmo 3% fee?
Pay from your Venmo balance, a linked bank account or a debit card instead of a credit card. Venmo's fees page lists no fee for sending money to a Venmo account or a US PayPal account that way, and 3% when a credit card funds the payment.
What is the Venmo goods and services fee?
Venmo's fees page calls it a seller transaction fee: 2.99% of a payment that the sender marks as for goods and services when it arrives in a personal profile. The row prints no fixed fee. The person receiving the payment pays it. A business profile pays 1.9% + $0.10 instead.
What are Venmo business profile fees?
Venmo's published US rate for receiving a payment in a business profile is 1.9% + $0.10, and 2.29% + $0.09 for a payment taken in person through Tap to Pay. A charity profile pays 1.9% + $0.10. On Venmo's rates, a business profile costs less than personal goods and services on any payment over $9.17.
Does Venmo charge a fee to receive money?
Not for a personal payment from another Venmo user, a merchant refund or a direct deposit. Venmo charges the recipient when the payment is for goods and services: 2.99% in a personal profile and 1.9% + $0.10 in a business profile. That is why a payment marked as goods and services arrives with a fee taken off.
How much is the Venmo Instant Transfer fee?
Venmo's Instant Transfer fee is 1.75% of the amount transferred, with a minimum of $0.25 and a maximum of $25.00. Transferring $100.00 costs $1.75 and $500.00 costs $8.75. A standard transfer has no fee and, Venmo says, typically arrives in 1 to 3 business days at a bank.
How much should I request to receive a set amount after Venmo fees?
Add any fixed fee to the amount you want, then divide by one minus the rate: amount to request = (target + fixed fee) / (1 - rate). To be left with $100.00 from a goods and services payment at 2.99%, request $103.08. On a business profile at 1.9% + $0.10, request $102.04.
Does Venmo return the fee when I refund a buyer?
No. Venmo's user agreement says there are no fees to make a refund, but the fees you originally paid as the seller are not returned. A refunded $100.00 goods and services payment therefore still costs the $2.99 fee.
How do I calculate Venmo fees in Excel or Google Sheets?
With the payment in A2, the rate in B2 (formatted as a percentage) and the fixed fee in C2, the fee is =ROUND(A2*B2+C2,2) and the amount you receive is =A2-ROUND(A2*B2+C2,2). The amount to request so that A2 is left is =ROUND((A2+C2)/(1-B2),2). The Instant Transfer fee on D2 is =MIN(MAX(ROUND(D2*1.75%,2),0.25),25.00).
